HORIZONS STUDENT ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Description

Founded in 1964, the Horizons Student Enrichment Program is a scholarship program that provides academic, athletic and cultural opportunities to low-income students ages six to eighteen from Stamford, Norwalk, Darien, New Canaan and surrounding communities. The six-week Summer Program enrolls over 250 children. Throughout the rest of the year, Winter Connection enrichment activities, such as tutoring, music lessons, Saturday School, and workshops are offered to students and their parents. In the Outreach Program, Horizons works with recent graduates, providing guidance and support through the high school years. One means of reaching these young adults is through a mentoring program that matches adult mentors with Horizons high school students. All Horizons offerings are designed to build skills, promote potential and self-esteem, and encourage a lifelong interest in learning.
