MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS

Description

The Mental Health Association has developed programs for elementary, middle and high school students to increase awareness and understanding about depression and help to prevent self-medication with alcohol and other drugs. The more informed young people are about the symptoms and treatment of depression, the more prepared they will be to seek help for themselves and their peers. Topics covered are: definition of major depression; signs and symptoms of depression; suicide awareness; positive and negative coping strategies; and how to get help for themselves or others. The program can also be adapted for presentation to churches, parent teacher organizations, and other community groups.

KIDS ON THE BLOCK are educational puppets which address the importance of every childís mental health, the concerns associated with young people using illegal substances, and safety. The curriculums are preventive and educational tools designed for grades one through six.

MHAC teaches kids about substance abuse and mental health and bullying.
