The Dispute Settlement Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to building peace, encouraging cooperation and fostering constructive conflict resolution among individuals, groups, and communities throughout Fairfield County. Mediation is a facilitation of dialogue to resolve conflict. It is a voluntary process where a trained impartial person - a mediator- helps both sides listen to each other and assists the participants in reaching their own agreement. We provide mediation services to about 2,400 individuals annually. Over 85% of those parties who come to the table reach an agreement. Services include: Conflict resolution training for groups and organizations. Conflict resolution and peer mediation training for students, parents and educators. Court Mediation Program: DSC provides direct mediation services to the criminal courts in Norwalk,Bridgeport, and Waterbury. These programs provide an alternative to litigation for defendants charged with criminal misdemeanors. Of the approximately 1,700 cases referred to the Dispute Settlement Center in 2007, 69% ended up in mediation, and 95% of all mediated cases resulted in agreements between complainants and defendants.
