CHOICES FOR SUCCESS

Description

Choices for Success, an after-school youth-development program of the Child Guidance Center of Mid-Fairfield County,  works with Norwalk Public Schools, and other area youth service providers, to help students succeed in school, at home and in the community.  Students typically enter Choices in middle school, many referred by family and friends of past students, or by school guidance counselors and social workers.

Choices includes academic, enrichment and behavioral components that work together topromote critical “habits of mind” that can be called on when faced with new, difficult or challenging situations.  Persistence, managing impulsivity, taking responsible risks, striving for accuracy, listening with understanding and empathy and remaining open to continuous learning are just a few of the habits of mind that Choicesstudents work to develop, under the guidance of mature, professional youth development workers.  The program also partners with (CPEP) CT Pre-Engineering Program to offer two days per week of hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and technology
