The YWCA of Darien/Norwalk is a non-profit organization that touches one out of every six households in our community. Through its family programs, community service initiatives and social clubs, the YWCA makes a difference for women and their families in our community through the following:
Parent Awareness:The YWCA's Parent Awareness promotes the positive development of children and teens by sponsoring seminars, workshops and discussion groups tackling challenging family issues.
In addition, the YWCA sponsors Week Without Violence, the Darien Children's Council and the Multi-Cultural Bridges program, which provides a forum about diversity.
Empowerment Programs: The YWCA's Beginning Again, a counseling and job skills training program, designed to meet the needs of individuals who must enter the workforce due to the death, disability or divorce of spouse.
Enrichment Programs: The YWCA's Funbuster program provides enrichment and recreational activities for those with special needs.
New Directions provides women with the support and training needed to find employment. Includes computer classes, one-on one guidance and job search assistance.
The YWCA also sponsors S.T.E.P. (Support our Town's Exceptional People), which supports parents in their role as advocates for their special needs children.
Children's Programs: The YWCA sponsors provide facilities for several children's programs, including Toddler Time, Music for Children and Creative Movement and Ballet.
