COURAGE TO SPEAK - DRUG PREVENTION PROGRAMS

Description

     The Courage to Speak Presentation empowers students, parents, educators and others to break the silence surrounding drug use and find healthy solutions in their schools and communities. This real life story with its prevention message has been heard by hundreds of thousands of people in over 1,000 presentations delivered in schools, communities and state and national conferences across the country.

     The Courage to Speak Drug Prevention Education Curricula includes distinctive programs for elementary, middle and high schools, taught by classroom teachers in many Norwalk schools since 2002.

     The Courage to Speak Prevention Education for After School Programs for students in grades 4-7, adapted from the Courage to Speak Foundationís school based curricula.

 

The Courage to Speak - Courageous Parenting 101, a free 4 session course in English and Spanish that educates parents and provides them with knowledge and tools to keep their children safe from drugs and other risky behavior.

 

The Courage to Speak Annual Empowering Youth to be Drug Free Family Night and Media Event. Held in March at West Rocks Middle School, this event draws over 450 parents, children, educators, business and community leaders and government officials to celebrate the commitment of the students in the Courage to Speak Drug Prevention Curricula to be drug free and be advocates with younger siblings and friends. Bringing the community together, this event builds an alliance of individuals who will not be silent about the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

 

The Courage to Speak Support Group for families who have lost a loved one to substance abuse. Meets monthly.

     Sunny's Story written by Ginger Katz, is a drug prevention book for children of all ages, parents, grandparents and educators. A tale of family love and tragedy narrated through the eyes, ears and mind of Sunny, the family beagle and tells of Sunnyís progression through the ups and downs of life with his young master Ian, beginning with their meeting at an animal shelter and ending with a futile effort to ward off disaster. The basis of the Courage to Speak Drug Prevention Curriculum for Grades 4-6 and the Courage to Speak Drug Prevention for After School Programs and a stand along book read in classrooms, libraries and at dinner tables across the country.
