Help Me Grow supports families with young children (prenatal to age 8) and providers working with families through calling Child Development Infoline: 1-800-505-7000. Help Me Grow helps connect people with a wide range of community services related to the child\'s health, development and education (e.g. parenting education classes, support groups, advocacy organizations, family resource centers, child guidance programs, grandparent supports etc.)
Help Me Grow offers telephone follow-up (and advocacy if needed) to make sure the caller gets connected to the resource.
Help Me Grow also offers a free, confidential way for families to follow their child's development, called the ASQ (Ages & Stages Questionnaire) Child Monitoring System. Parents receieve a questionnaire through the mail, as well as suggestions for fun activities to do wtih their child. Parents are contacted by mail or phone with feedback from the questionnaire. With parental consent the ASQ results can be shared with the child's doctor.
Help Me Grow can visit any pediatric or family practice in CT to talk about Help Me Grow, developmental surveillance and the use of validated screening tools such as the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Pediatric Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS). Through collaboration with the Child Health & Development Institute (CHDI) lunch or breakfast can be included.
Help Me Grow sponsors area networking events for anyone interested in supporting families. In Norwalk, Help Me Grow co-sponsors the quarterly Norwalk Healthy Families Collaborative/Immunization Action Plan/Family Support Alliance networking meeting for outreach workers and case managers. The meetings feature interagency connection and a speaker on a topic related to the healthy development of children newborn to age 8.
